Finsbury Park Removals Health and Safety Policy
Finsbury Park Removals is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, clients and members of the public who may be affected by our removals and related services. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety risks associated with moving, loading, transporting and unloading household and commercial goods.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health and property damage arising from our operations. We will achieve this by identifying and managing risks, providing appropriate training and supervision, and promoting a culture where safety is an integral part of every removal project.
We are committed to complying with relevant health and safety legislation and working to recognised industry standards for removal and transport activities. We will review this policy regularly to ensure it remains effective and up to date as our services and working practices develop.
Management Responsibilities
Management at Finsbury Park Removals is responsible for implementing and maintaining this Health and Safety Policy. This includes:
Ensuring that suitable and sufficient risk assessments are carried out for all removal activities, including packing, lifting, loading, transport and delivery. Providing appropriate equipment, tools and vehicles that are safe, properly maintained and suitable for the tasks undertaken. Making sure employees receive health and safety information, instruction and training relevant to their roles, including manual handling, vehicle safety and use of lifting aids. Ensuring that safe systems of work are established, communicated and followed on every job. Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions at work. Employees must:
Follow the training and instructions provided when carrying out lifting, carrying, loading, driving and any other work tasks. Use the equipment, vehicles and personal protective equipment supplied by the company as instructed. Report any hazards, defective equipment, unsafe practices or concerns to their supervisor or manager as soon as practicable. Co operate in accident and incident investigations and assist in identifying improvements to health and safety practices. Refrain from engaging in horseplay, unsafe shortcuts or any behaviour that could compromise safety during removals.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
We will carry out risk assessments for typical removal activities and for any non standard or higher risk work. These assessments will inform our safe working procedures, which may include:
Planning access routes for collection and delivery locations and checking for hazards such as steps, uneven ground or restricted doorways. Assessing the weight, size and shape of items to be moved and identifying whether additional team members, lifting aids or specialist equipment are required. Implementing safe manual handling techniques for lifting, carrying and setting down items, and ensuring that loads are kept as light and stable as possible. Using appropriate securing methods when loading vehicles to prevent movement of goods during transit. Taking weather conditions, lighting and traffic into account when working outdoors, on pavements or near the road.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a core part of removal work and carries a risk of strains and other injuries if not managed correctly. Finsbury Park Removals will:
Provide training in safe lifting and carrying techniques, including team lifting for heavier or awkward items. Encourage the use of trolleys, dollies, straps, ramps and other aids wherever practicable to reduce physical strain. Require employees to assess their own capability before attempting to move heavy or bulky objects and to seek assistance when needed. Ensure that all handling and lifting equipment is regularly inspected and maintained so that it remains safe to use.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
Safe operation of vehicles is essential to our health and safety performance. We will:
Ensure that our vehicles are appropriate for removal work and that they are inspected and maintained in a roadworthy condition. Check that drivers are competent, hold the appropriate licence and receive any necessary training on safe loading, securing loads and driving larger vehicles. Require drivers to carry out pre use checks and to report any defects or concerns immediately. Plan routes to minimise unnecessary risks and allow adequate time to complete journeys safely without pressure to exceed speed limits or drive while fatigued.
Customer and Public Safety
We recognise our duty to protect customers and members of the public during removal operations. To achieve this we will:
Agree safe access arrangements with customers prior to the move, including the use of hallways, stairs, lifts and parking areas. Where necessary, establish clear work areas and, where possible, keep these free from non essential persons during loading and unloading. Take care to prevent trip hazards by managing trailing cables, packing materials and tools. Handle customers property with care to avoid damage to premises, fixtures, fittings and belongings.
Training, Communication and Consultation
Finsbury Park Removals will provide training and ongoing guidance so that employees understand their health and safety responsibilities and are competent to work safely. Information will be communicated through induction training, toolbox talks, written procedures and on the job supervision.
We encourage employees to raise health and safety suggestions, to report near misses and to participate in improvements to working practices. Constructive feedback from customers regarding safety during their move is also welcomed and will be considered as part of our continuous improvement.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, injuries, near misses and incidents involving damage to vehicles or property must be reported promptly to management. Incident records will be reviewed to identify trends and opportunities to improve our controls.
Emergency procedures, including actions in the event of fire, serious injury or road traffic incidents, will be communicated to employees. Staff must familiarise themselves with these procedures and follow the instructions given during any emergency situation.
Policy Review
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed periodically and whenever there are significant changes to our operations, legislation or best practice. Revisions will be communicated to all employees and incorporated into our day to day procedures. By working together and maintaining a strong safety culture, Finsbury Park Removals aims to protect everyone involved in or affected by our removal services.
